CLOSING OR CLOSED COMPANIES
The business may be closing.
Its knowledge may still have value.
Support histories, engineering work, internal documents and communication archives can retain value for AI development. Copper Key assesses the opportunity and represents the authorized seller in licensing discussions.
Assess retained recordsStart before access disappears.
Tell us which archives remain, who manages them and when systems or accounts are scheduled to close. No exports, credentials or confidential records are needed for an initial conversation.
- Identify retained systems and the years of history available.
- Confirm who controls the assets and can authorize discussions.
- Flag deletion schedules, access deadlines and any existing buyer approach.
Ask your authorized wind-down team and counsel about lawful retention before changing a deletion schedule or spending money to preserve systems.
A documented commercial process.
We approach approved buyers, record available proposals and compare price, payment, rights, restrictions and preparation requirements. The seller decides whether to proceed.
Your counsel reviews ownership, confidentiality, privacy and any required approvals. Copper Key does not access, hold or prepare the records.
Voluntary wind-down, ABC, receivership or bankruptcy?
These processes have different decision-makers and approval requirements. A company’s closure does not automatically give a founder authority to license its records. We work with the authorized company representative, assignee, receiver or trustee and their counsel.
For a court-supervised matter, any required retention, transaction and compensation approvals must be addressed with counsel before proceeding. Licensing availability depends on the rights retained and the circumstances of the case.
